Cecilia has lived in Worcester since 1981 and joined the Arts Society Worcester in 2012; she was appointed Chair in 2024. She really enjoys the monthly lectures, finding the variety of topics superb. Cecilia values the opportunity to meet new people through the Society, and hopes to join in with some of the trips and visits now that she is retired from her role in the NHS.

Cecilia is an active member of St George’s Church, where she sings in the choir. She has a busy family life with nine grandchildren to keep her on her toes! Cecilia is also a school governor.

Jean joined the Arts Society of Worcester in 2022, having previously been a member of the local Arts Society in Portsmouth before moving up here, and took on the role of Membership
Secretary in 2024. Jean has found both Societies to be very active and has enjoyed meeting new people this way.

Jean’s artistic interests are very broad, encompassing visual arts, architecture, music and more. She loves to travel with her husband both in the UK and abroad, exploring local art galleries and finding out about the culture, art and history of the area. When at home, and not involved in TAS Worcester activities, she is busy with her grandchildren, and very active playing bowls, pétanque and walking. Jean is a member of the U3A and volunteers at a local community café.

Anna joined the Arts Society Worcester in 2022, on recommendation from a friend. She quickly started to volunteer, helping with refreshments and greeting members at lectures, and in 2024 she became Secretary. Anna has found other members to be very friendly, and has enjoyed the varied programme of lectures and trips on offer.

Anna’s main period of interest is early to mid-20th Century art, with Peter Lanyon being a particular favourite. Among other interests, she enjoys visiting art galleries and exhibitions, classical music and theatre. As a member of Worcester u3a (University of the Third Age), Anna runs the Film Appreciation group and also participates in tap and ballroom dancing groups. She loves to travel and bring home ceramics, pictures and textiles to remind her of her trips.

Nigel joined the Arts Society Worcester in 2017 and became Treasurer in 2023. He joined for the monthly lectures, and has been impressed by their very high standard and the wide variety of topics covered.

Nigel’s particular interest is architecture, especially English Baroque, for example Hawksmoor and Vanbrugh. He works in the building industry as a self-employed agent and consultant, and his hobbies beyond the arts include longbow archery and rowing. He enjoys visiting great buildings and gardens.

Sally joined the Arts Society Worcester in 2023 and took on the role of Programme Secretary in 2024. She enjoys the monthly lectures, learning a lot from them, and finding the speakers very engaging on their topics. No longer in paid work, Sally is enjoying having the freedom to plan her own time, usually around her family, walking, cooking and travel, as well as her TAS Worcester activities.

It's a little known fact that 'Maggie' Keeble is actually the pseudonym of the Keeble twins. How else could she possibly get so much done?

Maggie joined The Arts Society Worcester in 2010 and became a committee member in 2017. Initially drawn by the variety and high quality of the lectures, since retirement from her role as a GP Maggie has also enjoyed being able to take part in our visits and trips.

In her current role as Community Arts Lead, Maggie spends a lot of time making connections with other cultural groups and organisations in Worcester.  Both our own funds and grants from The Arts Society national body are used to resource a variety of community projects and have sponsored and supported artwork in the city. Our Heritage volunteers contribute to a number of local initiatives including helping to conserve the archive at the Museum of Royal Worcester.

Since retiring, Maggie has completed an Undergraduate Certificate in the History of Art at Oxford University. She enjoys visiting art galleries and museums in the UK and further afield, and retirement has allowed her to travel more, making the most of her motorhome!

Claire joined the Arts Society Worcester in early 2025, and became Social Media Lead in January 2026. She moved to Worcester in 2020 from Cambridge, and having retired from work during 2025, has found more time to enjoy the arts and other interests, as well as volunteering with a number of local organisations.

Having worked in scientific environments for most of her career, Claire has only relatively recently discovered a love for the visual arts, alongside a very long association with classical and other forms of music. She enjoys visiting local artists’ studios during Open Studios weeks, and is starting to visit galleries around the country when the opportunity arises. She has a particular love of the work of Ravilious and his contemporaries, but is also learning much about various other artists and periods through the Art Discussion group at Worcester u3a.

Neil has been providing technical support to the Arts Society Worcester since the 1980s. His role has developed over time into a very wide-ranging one, covering audiovisual support, website management and much more.

Neil’s interest in the arts spans all artforms, from architecture to theatre, film to music and painting. When not sorting out our technical problems, Neil finds much to keep him busy; he still works as a commercial photographer, sometimes provides sound for live musical performances and has even been known to take on ‘white van’ jobs. He also has long-term ongoing house renovation plans.

I'm Sue Russell-Jones and have been a member for thirty years during which I've served on every position in the committee and as Area Chair, which was enormous fun, visiting every society in West Mercia.

Members of the society showed friendliness and great support in my widowhood.

My favourite lecture was the one given by Bertie Pearce many years ago on Conjuring.

My favourite artwork? Anything by Vermeer! I also enjoy bridge, gardening, theatre (of course) travel but sadly no longer my lifelong obsession with playing tennis.
